How to Mark a No-Call No-Show for a Shift

Marking No-Shows and Canceling Shifts in NurseIO

Written by Brittany Haddox

Facilities now have the ability to mark an HCP as a No-Call No-Show (NCNS) directly in NurseIO, without needing to contact support. This process ensures accurate records, proper documentation, and an efficient workflow for shift management.

How to Mark an HCP as a No-Show

1. Access the Shift Management Page

  • Log into NurseIO and go to the Shift Overview page.

  • Find the shift where the HCP did not show up.

2. Enable the No-Show Option

  • The “Mark as No-Show” option becomes available 45 minutes after the shift start time.

  • Click the “No-Show” button to begin the process.

3. Confirm No-Show Status

  • A confirmation window will appear.

  • Enter any relevant notes (this field is mandatory).

  • Optional: If you still need the shift filled, check the box labeled "I still need this shift filled."

  • Click "Mark as No-Show."

Success Notification: A confirmation message will appear: “Success: Shift marked as no-show.”

What Happens After Marking an HCP as a No-Show?

  1. Facility Credit & HCP Debit Applied:

    • If the shift is not needed anymore, a credit is applied to the facility and a debit is applied to the HCP.

    • If the shift remains unfilled for 6 hours, the facility still receives the credit.

  2. DNR (Do Not Return) Status:

    • The HCP is marked as DNR for this facility with a note stating: "Clinician was marked as a no-show."

  3. Automated Email Sent to Support:

    • Subject: [Facility Name] has marked [Clinician Name] as a no-show for a shift.

    • Includes shift details, time, and facility notes.

  4. Shift Reopening (If Needed):

    • If “I still need this shift filled” is checked, the system re-offers the shift immediately to available HCPs.

    • If the shift is not re-filled within 6 hours, the credit is still applied.

How to Cancel a Shift Instead of Marking a No-Show

If a facility needs to cancel a filled shift within the cancellation window, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the shift in the Shift Overview page.

  2. Click “Cancel Shift.”

  3. A confirmation window will appear with the cancellation terms.

  4. Confirm the cancellation.

💡 Note: If the shift is canceled after the start time, a 4-hour debit will automatically be applied to the facility, and a credit will be given to the HCP.

Key Takeaways

  • No-show option is available 45 minutes after shift start time.

  • Notes are required when marking a shift as a no-show.

  • Checking “I still need this shift filled” automatically reopens the shift.

  • DNR status is applied to the HCP for that facility.

  • Shift cancellations after the start time result in a 4-hour charge to the facility.
